BRISCO & MILE SCHOLARSHIPS FUND. According to Donnie Brisco, the UNCF Corporate Scholars Program tagline of “money for college, experience for a lifetime,” couldn’t have more accurately described her needs. She was working part-time to make ends meet while a student at UNCF supported Spelman College, but she was diligently looking for more financial support. When she applied for and received a scholarship and internship through the Dell/ UNCF Corporate Scholars Program, she got the support she needed to pay for her education. She also garnered business experience that, when paired with her academic work in computer science, made her an attractive candidate for professional employment. In fact, she began work at Dell less than two weeks after graduation

MARLIN BRISCOE
Mr. Briscoe became the first black starting quarterback in the NFL, at the time when it was believed that African-Americans couldn't lead a team on the field. Mr. Briscoe did what no one had done before.... Marlin Briscoe Reciever Miami Dolphins His performance on and off the field paved the way for future minority quarterbacks. As a rookie quarterback with the Denver Broncos, Mr. Briscoe set a rookie record by throwing 14 touchdown passes in 11 games. However, he never played quarterback again. After only a week with a team in Canada, Marlin returned to the AFL where he was named All-Pro with the Buffalo Bills. He played on the only undefeated team in NFL history and won two Superbowl rings with the 1973-74 Miami Dolphins. He now spends his life working with kids and teaching them the step-by-step persistence in life that has served him so well in his own life.

VALERIE BRISCO HOOKS
More than a decade before Michael Johnson galvanized world attention with his 200m/400m doubles, Valerie Brisco became the first person to perform that feat in the Olympics. Her stage was ideal: the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, just miles from her home at that time. She set American records in both individual events, running 21.81 in the 200m and 48.83 in the 400m. She won her third gold medal that year when she anchored the U.S. 4x400m relay team that set an American record with its time of 3:18.28. In 1988, Brisco won her fourth Olympic medal when she ran the third leg on the 4x400m relay team that broke the world record but finished second to the USSR team. Her previous running career barely hinted at her true abilities. She won the 1979 AIAW 200m championship while a student at California State-Northridge and was on the 4x100m relay team that won a gold medal at the Pan American Games. After marrying and giving birth to a child, she put her running career on hold. She finally underwent a rigorous training program in time to emerge as a superstar in 1984, winning the national indoor 200 and outdoor 400 titles that year. She became the first American woman to break 50 seconds in the 400 meters with her time of 49.83. In 1985, she set an indoor world record of 52.99 in the 400-yard run, and she was the national champion in the outdoor 400m in 1986. In 1987, she won a relay gold medal at the Pan American Games and a bronze medal as a member of the 4x400m relay at the World Outdoor Championships. C Brisco
Hailing from Opalocka, FL, Poe Boy Entrainments Brisco, is the latest rap prodigy this independent label is set to blaze the industry with. The 24-year old intelligent, yet rugged rapper has used an assortment of past struggles and influences to mold him into the dynamic character of Brisco. Growing up in the Miami area, Brisco relishes his memories of the hood and only wants to give back to the community, which has molded him into the confident individual he is today. Theres nothing I want more but to give back to my community, he says. I want to be that person from my community that people can look up to. Its a positive thing. With the release of his new album Street Medicine ready to drop this year, this 16-track specimen of versatility and passion is sure to generate buzz. Briscos latest single Who You Is? has already sizzled across the South and hopes that will transcend into more anticipation for his new album. In todays industry a lot of the music is recycled, said Brisco. Im versatile in terms of what I talk about and my message. I think people are really going to feel this album. The album was produced with the collaboration of producing generals such as Timbaland, Red Spyder, Young Hollywood and J-Rock. The work of these musical sticklers has produced some of Briscos favorite tracks like Worst Fear and Round Here: 2 featuring Freeway. Worst Fear is a title that people can relate to in terms of life and the fear that associate it. Brisco talks about the fear of death, raising his one-year old son and life in general. Working with Freeway on a track stemmed from Briscos enthusiasm as a hype man for him during an appearance in Miami. He came down here to perform and didnt have anyone stage with him, he said. So, I listened to some of his songs and memorized them. He couldnt believe that I knew his songs. I hyped him up for the crowd and he loved it. He wanted to take me on the road, but I got a job to do here. Briscos lyrical style and delivery assimilates him to the likes of Scarface, Tupac and Biggie. He injects some Jay-Z and Nas affiliations into his repertoire, but Brisco is an individual himself. Im a real person and the things I talk about are real, he states. I think artists out there today, arent what they really portray themselves as. I talk about the bad and good things Ive done. Im real. Briscos engaging personality stems from a childhood highlighted by learning. He believes the death of his mother and brother before he turned 13-years old made him suffer through the realization that life cant get much worse. Ive already been through the worst, he said. I never really had the sense of family in my life, which has made me stronger. There isnt many things that can make me upset. Through all the struggles and hardships, he managed to ink a deal with a Miami based independent label, Slick Salt Records, in 1999. His determination to excel at his craft grew from the support of his cousin, G-12, who noticed his skills and pushed him towards pursuing a musical career during his teenage years. Music has always been apart of Briscos life, but so has writing. He began producing poetry in elementary school and found it as a sense of spiritual freedom. Through his poetry, Brisco was able to unleash a skill for writing, which correlates to his ability to compile masterful lyrics apart of Poe Boys lineup. My ultimate goal is to get a Grammy one day, he boasts. I can taste it. I just want to be as successful as I can be.

Justin Higgins The Grant Grand Son Of Bertha Brisco (Baby T )
Rayville"s Antonio Vaughn (22) takes a handoff from Justin Higgins (11) for a gain in the first half on Friday. After halftime, Rayville unleashed starting junior quarterback Justin Higgins, who ran the ball as much as he threw it, racking up 115 yards on the ground and 211 in the air. After the last-second victory for the Panthers in last year’s match-up, Higgins was not feeling much pressure to get the win this year. “We feel great. They whooped us last year, but I knew we would be a better team [this year],” said Higgins. The Panthers could not seem to get a lock on Higgins or the game throughout the second half and were only able to run ten plays in the fourth quarter as Rayville dominated possession. After last season’s offensive showdown, which ended with the Panthers taking possession on an interception and winning 44-33 with only a minute left to play, this season’s game between Rayville and Sterlington was a hard-fought defensive battle
